A brow lift is a great way to restore balance and youth to your upper face. A brow lift softens forehead lines, elevates drooping brows, and opens up the eye area for a more refreshed, alert appearance. Dr. Hulsey uses subtle and precise technique to restore natural expression without a pulled or surprised look. The result? A smoother, lifted upper face that still feels completely you.
As we age, our skin begins to lose its tightness and elasticity. This is especially true for the brow and forehead skin, both of which can be improved with a forehead lift. Skin laxity will frequently cause the eyebrows to sink, leading to a perpetually tired, sad, or angry expression when patients look in the mirror.
Additionally, repeated “scrunching” of the upper facial muscles can result in dynamic lines, where the skin above them has lost its ability to bounce back to a smoother texture. Dynamic lines can occur on the forehead (glabellar lines) and between the eyebrows (frown lines or “elevens”). A brow lift can correct upper eyelid skin excess, brow/ forehead wrinkles, and eyebrow position.
In a brow lift procedure, forehead skin is freed in order to lift the brows, excise excess skin, and address the muscle(s) that cause frowning. This helps correct eye brow position, upper lid skin excess, and brow wrinkles.
In a traditional brow lift, an incision that goes across the scalp is used. It can be hidden in the hairline, or is placed directly at the anterior hairline. The incision is designed to allow the scar to more easily blend in. A traditional brow lift allows excision of excess tissue, improves the appearance and corrects the location of your brows, and eliminates forehead wrinkles. Common risks include scarring (visible scar), numbness at the incision line, and hair loss in the region of the incision.
A temporal brow lift is a good option for those patients with mild to moderate brow descent. It involves smaller incisions within the hairline. It allows a shorter recover time, less pain, and a lower chance of scarring complications.
If you have extremely mild descent of your eyebrows, and aim for a mild list while address forehead wrinkles, minimally invasive injectable therapy may be an option. This includes:
A brow lift is an excellent choice for those with noticeable signs of aging of the upper face. You may be a candidate if:
Once your procedure is complete, you will have bandages and/or a compressive head wrap placed over your forehead and eyebrows to mitigate swelling and help your features adhere to their new contours. These should be removed at your first follow-up appointment. Patients typically return to work 7-10 days after their initial recovery period. Most recover fully in 2-3 weeks, when bruising and swelling resolve. You should avoid strenuous activity for 4 weeks.
You should notice the full results of your treatment about 3-6 months after your operation. Most patients enjoy the effects of their brow lift for a decade or longer with proper skincare.
