With time, many women notice drooping of their breasts, as well as loss of volume causing a "deflated" appearance. There are many causes. Pregnancy and breast feeding is a common cause, but changes can also occur with weight fluctuations and altered hormone levels with age. If you have sagging and loss of volume, you may consider this combination procedure.
Breast augmentation involves placing breast implants beneath the fatty, glandular tissue of the breast to enhance volume. This can provide a degree of lift. The primary goal of an augmentation is to add volume and improve the overall shape of the breast. Whereas a breast lift aims to significantly lift the breast and reposition the nipple/ areola. A breast lift can give the appearance of enhanced volume as it makes the breasts appear fuller, but it does not actually increase the size of the breast. Combining the two procedures allows Dr. Hulsey to address both sagging and lack of volume, giving the best of both worlds.
There are many factors involved in this decision, but the two main variables to consider are breast ptosis (sagging) and volume. If
If you have significant ptosis, aka your nipple falls significantly below your natural breast fold, or are even point down, then a lift is required to reposition the breast tissue and nipple/areola. An augmentation alone won't provide the degree of lift needed in this situation.
If you desire a fuller appearance or enhanced volume, a lift can provide this in appearance alone. If large cup size is desired, a breast augmentation is required.
Thus, if you need to raise your nipple/ areola and breast tissue AND you want a larger breast size, this procedure could be right for you.
Female plastic surgeon, Dr. Hulsey, will explore all options with you, and together you will decide on how to best proceed to reach your goals.
Immediately following your surgery, you will be taken into a recovery room to be closely monitored. Your breast incisions will be dressed in surgical gauze and you will be placed in a bra that will support the breasts as they heal, as well as minimize swelling. You may have to wear this bra for the first month following surgery.
Most of your discomfort or pain will be experienced during the first 48 hours immediately after surgery. Your breasts may feel sensitive or tight and there will be some swelling and discoloration or bruising, but it will disappear quickly within the first couple of weeks.
Female plastic surgeon, Dr. Hulsey, will give you directions regarding aftercare, including how to care for your breasts after surgery and what medications to take to aid healing and prevent infection. You will also be given written instructions on medication usage, local wound care, and specific warning signs you should keep an eye out for.
Your first post-op visit is usually the next morning unless otherwise specified. You may shower after your office visit. Exercise can begin in 3-4 weeks in most circumstances.
